Michel Savage holds a diploma from the University of Ottawa’s Department of Visual Arts, where he studied painting with Edmund Alleyn and Richard Gorman from 1972 to 1976. In 1982, he travelled, studied, and exhibited in Spain, where he met the Catalan artist Antoni Tàpies. His work of visual creation follows a path that privileges a symbolist poetry of the image. Through a phenomenological exploration of abstracted forms and colour, the artist seeks the shortest route between the emotion and the sign.
Since 1975, the artist has held numerous exhibitions at galleries as well as at several academic and cultural institutions in Canada and Spain. He has lived and worked in Montreal since 1983.
