The exhibition Recent Works presents paintings and works on paper by artist Michel V. Cheff, whose pictorial practice lies at the intersection of color, gesture, and matter. Between lyrical abstraction and tactile exploration, each work is the result of a sensitive dialogue between body, medium, and natural elements.
Created in his studio on the shores of Lac de la Marche in the Gatineau Valley, his works are born from contact with the surrounding nature. The water from the lake is literally integrated into them: it dilutes the pigments and coloring earths from Italy, Turkey, and France, giving the color an organic, vibrant presence. The soaked canvases become living surfaces where the material spreads, overlaps, and is guided by the artist’s gestures.
